 History

Elgin Funeral Home was founded in 1985, by Dick and Gloria Williams, who owned and operated Williams Grocery.   After the Newby Funeral Home was sold to a national chain, Dick and Gloria joined with three local businessmen and their wives; Lawrence and Marjorie Matetzschk; Bob and Kathryn Dumbeck; and Gene andBetty Ridings, to ensure Elgin and surrounding communities would continue to have an affordable and locally-owned funeral home.  Over the years, the shares were traded between partners and in 2017, Dick and Gloria Williams’ grandson, JoshHausladen and his wife Jamie became the sole, proud owners of Elgin FuneralHome.

Josh Hausladen joined Elgin Funeral Home in 2008, and immediately began implementing innovative ways to offer memorial options to the families we serve.  In 2009, Elgin Funeral Home became the first funeral home in Bastrop County to offer an integrated website as well as video memorials, which could be played during services and online.  Although, Josh continually seeks out innovative ways to serve, his true passion and calling has always been the amazing care of the deceased and their family.

Josh’s wife, Jamie, joined the family business in 2010.  Jamie has been vital to the day to day operations of the funeral home, as well as being a kind and loving spirit to those in a time of need.  In 2018, with the encouragement and support of Kathryn Dumbeck, Jamie opened a flower shop at the funeral home.  Jamie’s gift for compassion and creativity has made Elgin Funeral Home a special place of solace.
