Sister Dorothy Williams ~ 'A Prayer Warriior'

June 21, 1941 — April 10, 2023

Elgin, Texas

“A Prayer Warrior”

On Monday, April 10, 2023, Sister Dorothy Jean Williams, heard the Lord say:

“You've fought a good fight and have finished your course

and kept the faith, come on home to your Eternal rest. “

A blessed event took place on June 21, 1941, in Travis County, Texas, when Dorothy Jean was born the eighth child to Lloyd and Irene (Arnold) Williams. When the family was complete, Dorothy was the youngest child, blessed with seven siblings.  She was their promise, to always have a playmate and friend.

Dorothy grew up in the community of Littig, attending the public schools in Littig, Kimbro, and Elgin, marking her 12th grade at Booker T. Washington High School. Dorothy had a strong Christian foundation and accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Shiloh Baptist Church, under the leadership of Reverend W. Jones.  Sister Williams worked faithfully in the church, maintaining her membership there, her entire life. The community name her a “Prayer Warrior” Her priority was to give her children a strong Christian foundation, encouraging them to make Jesus Christ part of their lives.  Dorothy had a Prayer Line that was second to none – and she used it profoundly.  Sister Williams prayed for hundreds of people throughout the counties with amazing results. Everyone knew when a problem arose “Call Dorothy”.  Those quiet, beautiful prayers with such loud and powerful answers from God, will linger in our hearts.  Dorothy was considered a quiet person, not boastful, she would just listen and smile.

Dorothy worked as a home health caregiver for many years, traveling within her territory of the counties. As always, she enjoyed taking care of the people, assisting with their needs.

Talking to her ‘Lil Muffin’, she said, “I am tired…” and on April 10th, Dorothy made her transition…knowing her children knew this was not ‘goodbye but we will see you later’.  Dorothy will be joining her parents, and siblings – Jeanie, Joyce, Pearlie, Eugene Floydell, and Melvin.

Dorothy was a loving, and spiritual woman, one that feared the Lord but loved him dearly.  She sowed many seeds in and with her family, your church and the community covering many counties including Bastrop, Williamson, and Travis. She loved her children and grandchildren, always offering them encouraging words to make their day.  She enjoyed family gatherings and hosting family reunions.

Sister Williams’ beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives her daughter, Dorothy E. Thomas, her two sons, Paul Williams and Daniel Williams, three grandchildren, Crystal “Muffin” Williams, Antwan Williams, and Courtney Thomas: two great grandsons, Courtney Thomas, Jr., and Cameron Thomas; a special niece, Reginia Baker; her sister, Velay Charleston; a special cousin, Mary L. Austin and a multitude of nieces, nephews and other relatives covering five generations.

“The Lord is my light and my salvation, whom shall I fear?  The Lord is the strength of my life, of whom shall I be afraid?”  Psalms 27:1

“May we not ever take life for granted...and be grateful and appreciate life, and He who is our Creator.”
