Ronald Ray Kirkland, 72, of Elgin, passed away Sunday evening, February 16, 2020.  Family and friends will gather at the Elgin Funeral Home for visitation, on Friday, February 21st, from 2:00 PM until 3:00 PM.  Graveside service will follow at the Pleasant Grove Cemetery.

Ronald Ray Kirkland passed away on Sunday, February 16, 2020 at the home of his sister, Gail and brother-in-law. He was surrounded with love all weekend with friends, close and special neighbors, twin brother, sister-in-law, sister and brother in law.

Ronald was born on January 22, 1948 at Blackwell Sanitation & Clinic, Gorman, Texas to Woodie and Neva Kirkland. He is survived by his twin brother, Donald Gene Kirkland and his wife, Alice of Elgin, Texas, sister, Gail and her husband, Jackie Glidewell of Elgin, Texas, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Ronald is preceded in death by his dad and mom, Woodie and Neva Kirkland and a nephew; Steven Kirkland

Ronald had a huge heart.  He loved people and he loved to fish and hunt. When he was young he went to Lake Travis to fish, swim, and water ski. He was taught by his grandparents to play dominoes and that was played daily visiting them. He enjoyed going fishing with his brother and best friends Jerry Williams and Travis Wood for whom he will be happy to see Jerry and Travis in Heaven. I was told he went on a trip with Jerry, Kay, Donald and Alice to a houseboat Travis had on Lake Brownwood and fished and they all enjoyed that. This past year was the best he has had in a long time. He was invited along with his special neighbor friends whom are the pallbearers today to Port Aransas to the beach and to the country to fish and swim. He jumped off the dock shoes and all with Tim and Ima‘s 15 year old son, Gavin like he was a kid too. Ima taught him how to play a card game called Skat and he would go over for great cookouts over there. What a true blessing they were to him.

Ronald went to Sunshine Cottage in San Antonio, Texas and then his family moved to Austin to go to Texas School for the Deaf. Ronald worked for Butter Krust for many years. Within his tenure Donald was hired and Ronald got the pleasure to train him. When the plant closed he and Donald got on at Mrs. Baird’s bakery.  Later he got a job where he and his brother worked for Serta Mattress
