Obituary

Bob was born at his grandmother’s home in Foster, Kentucky, a one street town where he could confidently stand on his bike seat, coast downhill, and dare not even a cat to cross his path. He teased, yet adored his younger twin sisters, Jean and Janet. He milked the cows at dawn and played his harmonica at night, making friends in the time between with a gentle heart and a helping hand.

He was proud to be a Navy man on the USS Wright, proud to get an education from the University of Kentucky in Mechanical Engineering, proud to work for IBM for over 30 years, proud to be a rancher for over 30 years, proud to be a Texan for over 60 years, and proud to live a quality life for 91 years.

Bob met Lois on a blind date when he was home on a Navy leave, and before he returned to the Wright, he had asked her to marry him. They wrote letters for 14 months, and once he completed his Navy service, they were married. He was proud to be Lois’ husband, and she his wife, all her life.

Bob enjoyed drawing and building homes. He built two homes for his family and six homes for his friends. He was smart both on drafting paper and in conversation, and his quiet nature was belied by his quick humor and lively spirit.

Learning to fly was one of Bob’s dreams, and when he found out he was to be transferred to Austin from Lexington for work, he thought it time to get his license. He bought a small plane so he could go back to see family easily. His biggest thrill was taking his dad for a short flight. That’s the only time his dad’s feet left the ground.

Bob was a good teacher and patient father to his children. He taught them how to spell their name — no easy feat! He showed them how to tie their shoes and master their multiplication tables. He taught that to be on time is to be early, that they should find ways to make someone’s else’s day easier, and that no matter the outcome, they should set the bar higher next time.

Robert is survived by his daughter and family, Lisa Holden, Tobin Holden, Audrey Holden, and Rachel Holden, and his son and family, Conrad Reinheimer, Melissa Reinheimer, Brianna Reinheimer, Courtanie Reinheimer, and Blake Reinheimer. We are proud to call Bob our father and grandfather and will miss him as dearly as we love him, keeping him always in our memory as the kindhearted, witty, and principled man he was.

Family and Friends will gather at the Elgin Funeral Home, Friday, May 20th from 2:00 PM until 6:00 PM.  A Celebration of Robert’s life will be conducted at Elgin Funeral Home at 2:00 PM.  Interment will follow at Knobbs Springs Cemetery.
