Lupita Vigil

May 24, 1928 — July 14, 2021

Bastrop, Texas

Our sweetest and dearest beloved Wife, Mother & Grandmother Lupita Gonzales Vigil, age 93, entered Eternal Peace on Wednesday, July 14, 2021, at her home in Bastrop, Texas.
Lupita was born May 24,1928, daughter of Martin Urbano Gonzales and Manuelita Espinosa Esquibel Gonzales in San Pablo, Colorado.  Lupita married her husband of 74 years, Pete Armando Vigil March 31, 1947, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Costilla, New Mexico.  She was a member of Ascension Catholic Church in Bastrop, Texas.

Lupita loved her various travels throughout Europe while her husband was stationed in Germany and considered Ewald Fleckenstein & family and Dimas & Rosita Fabre, as her own family.  She dearly loved all her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great-granddaughter.  And especially her husband Pete who always took such good care of her especially after their car accident in 1991 which left her handicapped.  After being bedridden in Nov. 2018, Pete always went to her room to stay with her and they always said their evening prayers before bed with a goodnight kiss.

Lupita was the last surviving member of her siblings.  She was preceded in death by her infant Daughter Priscilla Vigil May 20,1948.  Siblings infant Enriquita Esquibel 1914, infant Pablita Gonzales 1927, Pauline Gonzales Trujillo Orcutt 1986, Estella Esquibel Maestas Romero 1989, Epifania Esquibel Medina 1995, Gilberto Esquibel 2001, Ernesto “Sisto” Espinoza 2004, Celestina “Tina” Gonzales Trujillo Lucero 2014, Susanita Esquibel Medina 2014, and Natividad “Tiva” Esquibel Padilla 2015.

She leaves her loving memories to be cherished by her dearest survivors: her sons, Ronald & Joseph (Hope) Vigil; daughters, Rosemary (Roger) Trujillo & Linda (Pat) Martindale; grandchildren, Christopher (Holly) & Laurinda Martindale, Pete (Amy) & Brandon (Julie) Trujillo, Joseph Vigil & Nicole (Richard) Mendoza; great-grandchildren, Pete Trujillo Jr., Abraham & Antonio Trujillo, Ashley Lewis, Alicia & Richard Mendoza Jr., Audrey Martindale; great-great-granddaughter, Holi’Dae Trujillo;  and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

The Family would like to thank Resolutions Hospice, Melanie, Laura, Patty, Sarah, Amy, Jackie, Roxie, Therese, Carole & Kelly for the 2 ½ years of wonderful care.  Girling Community Care and personal care attendants, Patti & Melvina.  Members of Ascension Church, Karen Pinard, Deacon Paul Cooke, and Deacon Corby Weiss for coming on Sundays to distribute the Holy Eucharist for the past 2 ½ years while our mother was bedridden.  Alberta Garcia & Lupita Munoz for coming to pray the Rosary in Spanish with us.

Family and friends will gather at Ascension Catholic Church of Bastrop for a recitation of the Holy Rosary, Friday, July 23rd at 2:30 PM.  A Celebration of Christian Funeral Mass will follow at 3:00 PM with Father Ramiro presiding. Christian Burial will be private at the San Francisco Catholic Cemetery in El Rito, Colorado.
