Lawrence Douglas Price, Jr ., 71, passed away on March 14, 2023, in his home in Elgin, Texas. He was born on November 3, 1951, in Houston, Texas, to Lawrence D. and Goldie B. Price. Lawrence was a lifelong resident of Elgin, Texas.  He attended and graduated from Elgin ISD. During his time in the Elgin school system, he served as a Boys State Delegate in 1968, was an honor student, participated on the track team, and was a member of the high school band playing the saxophone.  He attended college classes at Texas Southern University located in Houston, Texas.

Lawrence accepted Christ at an early age and was a lifelong member of the Mount Moriah Baptist Church in Elgin, Texas. He also attended church services at Christian Home Missionary Baptist Church while attending classes at Texas Southern University in Houston, Texas.

Lawrence fathered two children, Dakota and Douglas Price, and a proud grandfather of three grandchildren, Azlan Burns, Nyla Burns, and Khaliyah Price.

Lawrence was a man of many talents.  He worked as a butcher for Handy Andy Grocery Store, Safeway Grocery Store, Super “S” Grocery Store, and retired from Southside Meat Market in Elgin. He spent some time as a welder but may be best remembered for working as a bartender at the Corner Bar, Kung Fu Inn, and Shorty’s all located in Elgin, Texas.

Outside of work, Lawrence loved visiting with friends, entertaining company, and preparing Bar-B-Que at his home.  He was always up for playing pool or attending a pool tournament.  Loved watching sports like Track & Field and Baseball on television.  His favorite type of music was Smooth Jazz especially anything by the musical group Maze featuring Frankie Beverly.

Lawrence is preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence D. and Goldie B. Price, his grand-parents Edd and Willie Price, his uncle Will Ed Price, numerous cousins, and lifelong friends.

Lawrence Junior lived a thankful enriched life and his priceless legacy will be long remembered by his daughter, Dakota and her husband, Steven Burns, their children, Azlan, and Nyla Burns; his son, Douglas Price and his daughter, Khaliyah Price;  his only brother and life time friend, Edwin Price and his wife, Eva, his niece, Leslie Price husband Alexandro Ascencio and their son, Jaxon Ascencio Price, his nephew, Trevor Price; his long-time companion, Carol Haywood, his honorary bonus children, Shamika McGee, James McGee and wife Teresa, Ella McGee, Sylvia Jones, Quentin Green, Nicholas Haywood, 12 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren along with a host of other family and friends that will all deeply miss his warm smile.

Lawrence "Junior Price" Douglas Price, Jr. will lie In-State at Elgin Funeral Home on Friday, March 24th from 2:00 PM until 5:00 PM.  A Home Going Celebration will be held at Mount Moriah Missionary Baptist Church of Elgin Saturday, March 25th at 11:00 AM with Reverend Steven Ward presiding.  Interment will follow at Elgin Latin Cemetery.
