Jon Sterling Stewart, 72, of Bastrop, formerly of Abilene, passed away surrounded by his loving family, Thursday, July 1, 2021. Jon was born on Monday, July 5, 1948, to Martha Evelyn Akins Stewart and Orel Holmes Stewart.

Jon attended the University of Texas at El Paso and received his degree in architecture.  He was licensed to practice in 48 states, where he worked on residential, industrial, and commercial projects as both an architect and project manager. One of his proudest career achievements was working as the project manager for the Alamodome in San Antonio.

Jon had a love for telling stories of his youth and could captivate any audience. He had a passion for the Old American West and possessed a fascination with cowboys and Indians since his childhood. Jon owned more cowboy boots than his family could count, and it was the go-to for every family member searching for a birthday or Christmas gift.

Jon was preceded in death by both of his parents, Orel and Martha Stewart.

Jon is survived by his son and daughter, James Sterling Stewart and Kimberly Michelle Stewart; and her three children, Logan Sterling, Peyton Claire, and Taylor Renee; his three sisters, Sharon Stewart, Sara Stewart, and Holly Stewart; his brother, Jefferson Stewart and wife Linda and their children, Amon and Eli Stewart. He was a loved father, brother, and best friend.

Family and Friends will gather at Fairview Cemetery, for a Graveside Service, Tuesday, July 6th at 10:00 AM with the Reverend, Phillip Thomas presiding.  A Memorial Service, Celebrating Jon’s Life will be conducted at a later date.
