Donnie Zachary

Donnie Ray Zachary, 72, of Taylor, passed away peacefully, Saturday, June 12, 2021.  He will lie in state at Elgin Funeral Home, Wednesday, June 16th from 9:00 AM until 5:00 PM.  A Home-Going Celebration will be conducted graveside at Taylor City Cemetery, Thursday, June 17th at 10:00 AM.

A BRIEF SKETCH OF LIFE FOR

DONNIE RAY ZACHARY, SR.

Donnie Ray Zachary, Sr. was born November 13, 1948 to Alfred and Frankie Zachary. He was the third youngest of seven. Donnie received his education from Blackshear O. L. Price and Taylor I.S.D where he received All-State Honors in football and track and field.

On July 2, 1972, he married  Rubye N. Thomas and gave birth to 4 children (2 boys and twin girls). They were married for 46 years until she past on from this world July 28, 2018. He was a Union Pacific Railroad Retiree of 19 years and a die-hard Dallas Cowboys fan.

Our father was a humble loving soul volunteering his time in the Taylor Community with organizations such as Blackshear O.L. Price Alumni Association and Allen Chapel AME Church. He was his children’s biggest cheerleader motivating them to excel at everything they do with his saying “If you going to do it then do it right!” Other than being his children inspiration he and our mom was inseparable. They partnered in many different volunteer events in the community of Taylor. He was our mother’s strength caring for her until she was called home in 2018.

Donnie was called home on Saturday, June 12, 2021. The love ones that preceded him in death are Alfred and Frankie Zachary, brothers (Alfred Zachary Jr. and Otis Zachary), sisters (Evelyn Taylor, Delores Zachary and Faye Zachary). He is survived by his sister Brenda Zachary and his children (Donnie Jr., Ritta and Nitta and Derek). Also, 9 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends
