Betty Ann Westbrook Poole, 92, of Elgin, was born on May 13, 1930, in the Elgin Texas area. She was the daughter of Willie and Hanna Westbrook. She was a descendent of the P H Youngquist family, a pioneer Swedish immigrant family, who settled in the Decker community in Eastern Travis County in 1889. Betty graduated from Manor High school. She died May 12, 2023 one day before her 93rd birthday.
Betty married Al Poole, on April 16, 1955. Al worked for the Southern Pacific Railroad which meant many family transfers to different posts of duty. They lived in New Orleans, Beaumont, Hearne, San Antonio, and finally retired to the Elgin area. In each location they were active in their local church.
Betty was a faithful Christian and loved her Lord. She was a faithful member of the Elgin Evangelical Free Church. She served her church in many capacities and represented her church on the Evangelical Free Church Cemeteries Association board.
Betty is survived by numerous nieces and nephews and a host of many friends.
Betty will lie In State at Elgin Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 16th from 11:00 AM until 2:00 PM. A Funeral Service will follow at 2:00 PM with Pastor Tim Teague presiding. Interment will be at Kimbro Cemetery at a later date.
