Willie Cathey

Willie Gene “Bubba” Cathey was born on February 22, 1942, in Elgin, Texas to the late Louis and Lillie Mae Cathey. He departed this life on Sunday evening, August 19, 2018. Bubba attended Booker T. Washington High School. Bubba played the trumpet in the band while attending Washington High.

Bubba accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and was baptized at an early age at Winn’s Memorial Baptist Church by the late Reverend Mack Robinson.

Bubba was united in holy matrimony with Wynetta Penson on October 14, 1981. To this union they were blessed with two (2) children, Alvera and Wendall. His first marriage to Alteris Williams Cathey was also blessed with a son, Byron.

Bubba worked as a construction worker throughout his lifetime. He loved fishing, playing dominoes, watching sports, news and spending time with family and friends.

Bubba was preceded in death by his parents and seven siblings, Norman, Edward Charles, Bobby Joe, Louis Charles, Martha Lynn, Raymond and Dorothy (his twin).

Bubba will be missed by his wife of thirty six years, ten months and five days, Wynetta Cathey; his children , Byron (April), Alvera; and Wendell. Three (3) grandchildren , Itianna, Raven and Kevin. Great Grandson: Elijah; Siblings ; Elmer, (Catherine), Joyce, Tommie Nell (Horace), Robbie (Jimmy), Shirley (Emzie), Rudy (Carolyn) and Bonnie. Mother in law: Alma Penson . Brother in-laws : Kenneth (Beth), Mark (Tasha) and Lorenzo Fowler Sr. Sister in laws: Pat (Johnny) and Mary. He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, and nephews, great- great nieces and nephews. Special friends: Leroy Terry and Willie Taylor.
