Wilford Lenard Alexander, Jr., age 91, of Taylor, Texas, and formerly of Elgin, peacefully departed this life on October 27, 2025. Born the first of two sons to Alma Irene (Johnson) and Wilford Lenard Alexander, Sr., on September 22, 1934, in Bell County, Texas.
Known fondly as “Butcher” or “Chief,” Wilford was raised in a loving family and attended Tennessee Valley and Belton High Schools. It was during his time at Belton High that he met Belva Jean Jaye, the love of his life. After graduating with the Class of '53, the couple married in 1954. Wilford proudly enlisted in the United States Army, and while serving at Fort Lewis, Washington, they welcomed their first child, Keith. In 1959, the family moved to Elgin, Texas, where they joyfully welcomed their second child, Karol, and made Elgin their home for nearly 60 years.
After his honorable discharge from the Army in 1959, Wilford embarked on a fulfilling career as a butcher, starting at Aronson’s Grocery Store, then moving to William’s Grocery, and ultimately retiring from Southside Meat Market. His commitment to serving his community did not end with retirement; he remained actively involved, working at the local Ford dealership and dedicating over 50 years to the Elgin Volunteer Fire Department, where he proudly served as Fire Chief for numerous years.
Wilford was preceded in death by both his parents, his wife of 66 years, Belva Jean (Jaye), his brother, Wayne Alexander, and his grandson, Kevin Alexander. He leaves to cherish his memory, his son Keith Alexander and wife Bobbe; his daughter, Karol and husband Rodney Jarmon; his four grandchildren, Casey and husband Terry Thames, Kristen and husband James Oates, Donavon Jarmon, and Meagan and husband Dylan Green; seven great-grandchildren, Alex, Kaitlynn, Blake, Taylor, Kaylee, Konnor, and Aubrey; and numerous extended family and dear friend. Wilford will be remembered for his warmth, dedication to his family, and unwavering service to his community. He leaves behind a legacy of love and commitment, cherished by all who knew him.
Family and Friend will gather for Visitation at Elgin Funeral Home, Sunday, November 2nd from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM. A Celebration of Wilford’s Life will be conducted at Pleasant Grove Cemetery Pavillon, Monday, November 3rd at 11:00 AM with Pastor Dwight Reagan presiding. Interment will follow.
