Vonnie Peel Stabeno was reunited with her husband in their Eternal Home on June 3, 2025, in Mart, Texas, at the age of 65.
Vonnie Stabeno, born on January 11, 1960, in Austin, Texas, to Lonnie and Lee Peel, passed away after a life dedicated to family, community, and service. She attended Pflugerville High School before pursuing her nursing education in Taylor, Texas. In 1980, she married the love of her life, Rodney “Bubba” Stabeno, and together they built a life filled with love and commitment, residing in Elgin until 2018, when they relocated to Mart to create their dream home on a their cherished property.
With a deep passion for helping others, Vonnie devoted over a decade of her career to the Elgin Family Clinic, providing compassionate care to countless Elginites. Her commitment to healthcare continued as she transitioned her focus to supporting the elderly, where she made an enduring impact for many more years. Additionally, Vonnie actively volunteered at local schools, contributing her time helping with concessions stands, graduation planning, and many other efforts to enhance the educational experience for her sons and their friends.
An exceptional cook - she delighted in preparing elaborate meals for family gatherings, especially during holidays, which were a source of joy for her. She took great pride in decorating her home to create a festive atmosphere, especially after becoming a grandmother, a role she cherished deeply. Her love for her family extended to the cattle they raised together; she had a special tradition of naming calves born on family members' birthdays after them, capturing the hearts of her loved ones with updates and photographs.
Above all, Vonnie was devoted to her family. She is survived by her two sons and two grandchildren, who lovingly referred to her as “Nonnie.”
Vonnie is preceded in death by her loving husband of 45 years, Rodney Stabeno, and parents Lonnie and Lee Peel.
Vonnie is survived by her two sons, Colton Stabeno and wife Krystal, and Hunter Stabeno; as well as two precious grandbabies, Emmett and Emmie. She is also survived by her brother and sister, Ronnie and Hollye Peel, along with many extended family members and dear friends. Her legacy of love, care, and joyful spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
Family and Friends will gather for Visitation, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church of Elgin, Thursday, June 12th from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM with a Celebration of Vonnie's Life at 11:00 AM with Pastor Sam Brannon presiding. Interment will follow at Elgin Cemetery.
