Stephen Manelski

May 21, 1946 — September 6, 2022

Elgin, Texas

Stephen Andrew Manelski, 76, of Elgin, passed away Tuesday evening, September 6, 2022.  Stephen was born to the late Albert and Marie Manelski in Santa Monica, CA on May 21, 1946.  He was raised in Hicksville, NY where he became active in the Catholic Church and was a faithful member his entire life. At age 19, he was drafted in the United States Army to serve in the Vietnam war as a 592nd Desert Rat.

After his honorable military service, he went on to attend the University of Colorado and received his bachelor’s degree.  Steve had a brief career as a geologist in Colorado before he was hired by United Airlines to become the airline’s very first male flight attendant.  It was while flying "The Friendly Skies" that he met fellow flight attendant, Patty, in San Francisco, CA. They were married in 1975, and the couple was blessed with three wonderful children. Upon leaving his position with United Airlines, Steve began and enjoyed a successful career as both a commercial real estate agent and financial advisor.  During the stock market closure following the tragedy of Sept. 11, Steve met Linden.  They were married in 2002 and shared many wonderful years together with their two beloved Jack Russell puppies.

Steve was a scholar at heart, devoting many years of his life to learning, reading, and writing.  He pursued many hobbies; among his favorites were golfing, hiking, running (which included marathons), skiing, chess, and playing pool.  During his retirement, Steve became a Life Member of the
Vietnam Veterans of America. He dedicated many selfless hours to serving his local veteran community by providing free videography and media services and maintained close relationships with veterans across the country. He will be missed by his loved ones and friends.

Steve was preceded in death by both his parents and his brother, Thomas “Tom” Manelski.

Steve is survived by his wife, Linden Manelski; his son, Michael “Ace” Manelski; daughter, Meghan Manelski, and son, Derek “Duck” Manelski; his siblings, Kathleen “Kathy” Henry, Gregory “Greg” Manelski, Richard “Richie” Manelski, James “Jamie” Manelski, Marie Manelski, and Susan “Susie" Haran; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends.

Family and Friends will gather for a Memorial Service, to Celebrate Stephen’s Life, at a later date.
