Selma Maria Rodriguez, 47, of Bastrop, passed away on November 3, 2025. Selma was born at Breckenridge Hospital on December 3, 1977, to Yolanda Ruiz and Gabriel Rodriguez. Selma grew up in Stony Point. She then moved to Bastrop, where she attended Bastrop High School and graduated.
Selma got married in 2000 but never had children. She eventually found a fulfilling career as a custodian and floor tech at Bastrop Independent School District in 2001, where she worked for about 10 years. Afterwards, she became a stay-at-home wife and started helping raise her niece, Destiny Rodriguez, and her nephew, Christopher Rodriguez. Selma loved these two as if they were her own children.
Selma was the sweetest person ever. She loved kids and would babysit numerous children for family and friends. Selma was everyone’s ‘go-to babysitter’ because all of the kids loved her.
Selma was a very joyful person; she loved visiting the flea market every Sunday and enjoyed dancing there. She always played Spanish music loudly in her car wherever she went. Selma was the one who kept dancing at gatherings, and after every dance, she performed her famous splits. If you know Selma, you know she’s going to do the splits after every dance. She loved watching Dallas Cowboys games, and being a big fan, she was so loud.
In her final days, she was surrounded by her best friend, Quinton Williams, and her sister, Nancy Rodriguez. So when you’re feeling down, think of Selma's big smile, her loud laugh, her crazy dances, with the assurance that Selma is no longer in pain or suffering. Her life was well lived.
Selma was preceded in death by her grandparents, Manuel Montoya Rodriguez, Atanacia Gomez Rodriguez, Raymond Ruiz, and her brother, Martin Ruiz.
Selma leaves in God’s hand to cherish her legacy are her mother, Yolanda Ruiz; her father, Gabriel Rodriguez; her three godchildren, Mayra Rodriguez, Christopher Rodriguez, and Delizza Moreno; her six siblings, Gabriel Jr, Rose, George, wife Joann, Nancy husband, Juno, Joe, Blac, and wife Erica; twenty-four nieces and nephews, thirteen great nieces and nephews, and extended family and friends.
