Sam Leroy Dumas Jr. was born on December 29, 1952, in Jerrell, Texas, the second child of Sam Leroy and Loney Dumas. He entered the world alongside his twin brother, who passed away in Temple, Texas, just four months after their birth. Sam’s parents also proceeded him in death. Sam’s legacy lives on through his beloved children; Asia Dumas, Shontay Dumas, Sam Dumas, and Aaron Dumas. His memory continues to shine in the hearts of his fifteen grandchildren and his growing number of great-grandchildren. Sam’s love for family extended far beyond his immediate circle. He cherished a wide community of friends and is survived by his devoted siblings; Clara M. Dumas Young (Billy), Rozella Dumas Houston, Jesse Dumas (Roxanne), and Lisa Dumas Crayton (Steve). Their shared memories reflect a lifetime of deep, enduring family bonds. A lifelong Texas, Sam built a life grounded in purpose, connection, and dedication. He was a proud graduate of Lanier High School, where he excelled as an all-star running back and later earned acceptance to Prairie View A&M University. His love for football continued into adulthood as he went on to play semi-professional ball with the Austin Texans, a highlight of his athletic accomplishments. Sam worked as a skilled mechanic for the City of Austin, the Texas School for the Blind, and later with an Austin-based elevator company. His craftmanship extended far beyond the workplace-he built cars and entered them in numerous car shows, proudly winning multiple contest awards for his creativity and skill. Those who knew Sam will forever remember his steady presence, his generous spirit, and the many lives he touched across generations. May his memory be a lasting source of comfort, love, and strength to all who were blessed to know him.
