Rose Terry Johnson, 85, passed away on May 17, 2025, after battling cancer for five years. Rose was born on June 29, 1939, in Velbert, Germany, to Wilhelm Ross and Luderera Paula Maria Hummernbrum.
Rose was known for her infectious laugh, creative spirit, and unwavering love for her children. She faced the challenge of her illness with grace and determination. She found joy in simple things, like gardening, spending time with her loved ones, and caring for others.
Rose immigrated through Ellis Island, making her first place of residence in the United States, Bryan, Texas. As a young woman, she lived on a ranch in Horton, Oregon. Upon returning to Texas, she lived in the surrounding area of Houston, before retiring in Bastrop in 2005.
Rose was a wife, mother of four, and a homemaker. When she lived in Houston, Rose was a medical transport driver for the elderly, getting them to their appointments.
Her passions were crocheting, reading books, and watching movies. Her favorite movie was Gone with the Wind. She loved to garden; she could grow something from nothing. She loved to dance and listen to music; her favorite artist was Neil Diamond.
Rose was preceded in death by her father, Wilhelm Ross, her mother, Luderera Paula Maria Hummernbrum, and her brother, Hans Wilhelm Ross.
Rose’s cherished legacy will be remembered by her sister, Inga R Lovelace, her children, Mike Muse, Milton (Mickey) Barker, Donald (Don) Barker, and Terraina Rose Terry; her grandchildren, Robert Muse, Andre Barker, and Nola Barker; her nieces and nephews, Victor Mendez, Monica Blackburn, and Autumn Lucas.
