Pedro "Pete" Ruiz

Pedro “Pete” M. Ruiz, 78, of Elgin passed away peacefully, at his home, surrounded by his loving family, Friday evening, October 7, 2022.  Pete was born in Buda, the first of six children to Donaciana Martinez and Frutoso Ruiz.  Pete grew up and attended school in Buda, where he met Juanita Espinoza.  The couple married in 1960, then moved to Austin, where they raised three children, Michael, Lisa, and Tina.  While living in Austin, he began a career with the University of Texas as a Landscape Supervisor, where he worked for almost 30 years and met a beautiful lady, Concepcion “Connie” Sanchez, in 1982, who had four children of her own, Carol, Joe, Danny, and Angie. They married February 19, 1983 and have made Elgin their home for over 40 years. The newly blended family fell in love instantly and enjoyed spending time together.  Pete loved to fish and hunt, play baseball, camping, traveling, and spending time with family and friends while having a cold beer.

He was preceded in death by both his parents; his twin brother; his two sisters, Eloise Martinez, and Carmen Huerta; brother-in-law, Arnold Huerta; son-in-law, Cody Pearson; niece, Carmen Uballe; and great-granddaughter, Annalyssa Machado.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of over 40 years, Connie; his seven children, Michael Ruiz and wife Norma, Lisa and husband Vincent DeLeon, Tina and husband Alex Besa, Carol Trevino, Joe Falcon and wife Angela, Danny Falcon, and Angie and husband Travis Lindgren; 19 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Luis Ruiz and wife Toni, Henry Ruiz and wife Lupe, and Johnny Ruiz and wife Loraine; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.  His love will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Family and Friends will gather for Visitation at Elgin Funeral Home, Thursday, October 13th from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM and will pray the Holy Rosary at 7:00 PM.  A Celebration of Christian Funeral Mass will be conducted at Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Elgin, Friday, October 14th at 10:00 AM with Father Paul presiding.  Christian Burial will follow at Elgin Latin Cemetery.
