Paul Wayne Peterson, 86, from Elgin, Texas, passed away peacefully in his sleep on November 17, 2025.

Paul was born on March 5, 1939, in Austin, Texas, to Lambert and Edith Peterson of Elgin, Texas. Paul resided in Elgin, Texas, his entire life. He married Jeanette Mogonye on August 6, 1960, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Elgin, Texas, and remained in Elgin, where they raised their family.

After school, Paul worked at the US Postal Service for a few years before joining the Internal Review Service, where he retired.

Paul enjoyed hunting, but spent most of his time hunting deer. He once mentioned he liked getting to his stand early because he enjoyed how quiet and peaceful it was to watch the sun rise and the dew fade…while hoping he might see a deer or two. He also spent a lot of time with his brothers and family fishing. Paul retired early and spent his time raising cattle, running his hay business, and growing very large gardens. Paul was a caregiver! If you were under the weather…he would bring you soup or a casserole. If you were struggling financially…he probably gave you money. If he loved and cared about you…you probably got a cake, pie, or some kind of sweet dessert. If he saw you in the store looking to buy some vegetables he grew… he probably had you meet him at his truck to give you some right out of his garden, for free. He also had a huge heart for taking care of those who could not speak…you know, the ones that moo, bark, chirp, and squawk. If they were sick, he would take care of them and nurse them back to health… while, in the meantime, becoming a family pet. He would also take in animals that others no longer wanted. Unlike most kids… we never had to ask for an animal; they would show up!

Paul was an active member of the SPJST Lodge #18 in Elgin for over 50 years and attended St. Peter’s Lutheran Church.

Paul is preceded in death by his wife, Jeanette Mogonye Peterson, his parents, Lambert and Edith Peterson, and his brothers, Donald Peterson and Gary Peterson, his brother-in-laws, Glen Matetzschk and David Mogonye, his sister-in-laws, Jan Mogonye, Dorothy “Dottie” Peterson Nitkin, Sandra Peterson, and a nephew, Scott Mogonye.

Paul's legacy of love lives on, as he leaves to cherish a lifetime of joy and memories, his children, Terry Peterson (wife JoAnn), Paula Urbanovsky and Dawn Treichel (husband DJ). Grandchildren, Doug Spaw (wife Vanessa), Stephen Peterson, Meghan Caskey (husband Corey), Malorie Pace (husband Heath), Tyler Laake, Britten Tedford (Phillip), and Hunter Tedford (Phoenix); his great grandchildren, Callaway Spaw, Layla Spaw, Weston Pace, Landon Pace, Madison Sims (husband Carter), Makenzie Pace (Colton), Megan Sims (husband Clayton), Cade Caskey and Miles Caskey; his great-great grandchildren, Grayson and Addison Sims.
