Nuel Richard Worthey

Nuel Richard Worthey, 86, of Elgin, Texas, passed away on Thursday, May 13, 2021. He was born to Iola and Nuel Preston Worthey, in San Antonio, on July 15, 1934.  Richard spent his early childhood in Houston, until parents moved to Elgin and started the Western Auto Associate Store in 1946.  After graduating from Elgin High School with the Class of ‘51, he attended Texas A&M University, then transferred to Baylor.  Richard eventually left college to help his dad manage the store until 1976, when Richard took over and continued its successful operation until 1987.  Richard loved spending his spare time oil painting landscapes and creating intricate models with wood.

Richard was preceded in death by both his parents; his grandson, Jacob Worthey; and brother-in-law, Wallace Cardwell, DVM.

Richard is survived by his wife of 41 years, Lois Worthey; his sons, Michael Worthey and wife Sharon of Grand Prairie, Marshall Worthey and wife Lorrie of Green Mountain Falls, Colorado; daughter, Michelle and husband Randy Heidemann of Glen Jean, West Virginia; step-daughter, Terri and husband Andrew Siens of Elgin; step-son, Jason Lindgren; sister, Ardeth Cardwell of Elgin; mother-in-law, Betty Robertson of Elgin; grandchildren, Joshua Worthey and wife Breanne, Noah Worthey, Hannah and husband Zach Kapp, Naomi Worthey, Gabe Heidemann and wife Karissa, Michael Heidemann, Tracie Bernal, Richard LaLonde and wife Joanna, Kaitlyn Siens, Meghan Siens, Nathaniel Siens and wife Andrea, and Christopher Siens; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous extended family and dear friends.

Family and Friends will gather for visitation at Elgin Funeral Home, Monday, May 17th from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM.  Funeral Service will be conducted at Cedar Valley Baptist Church of Elgin, Tuesday, May 18th at 1:00 PM with the Reverends, Steve Ponder and Joe Thedford presiding.  Interment will follow at Elgin Cemetery.
