Norman Brown

Norman Dale Brown, 82, of Elgin, Texas, passed away on February 2, 2026, at home surrounded by family.

Norman had a vibrant personality and a gentle soul that drew many friends and family to love and enjoy time and talks with him. He loved the outdoors- fishing, hunting, gardening, arrowhead hunting, and traveling adventures all over the US. He loved to talk and share laughter with everyone. He never met a stranger. He loved playing 42, where his winning streaks were questioned. You could find him playing horseshoes around the house or in a campground somewhere. Norman and Carolyn have traveled all over the US, spending time along lakes, rivers, mountains, and beaches. He was always the happiest when he was outdoors.

Norman was raised around the Manor/Elgin area with his five brothers and three sisters. The Browns were known throughout the area. He enjoyed baseball with his brothers. He married Carolyn Kyser in 1967 and started their family with two sons and a daughter. Norman was a plumber, propane truck driver, cotton hauler, rabbit breeder, and community servant. He helped establish the 969 Volunteer Fire Department and served as its fire chief for 12 years. Norman also served as a deacon at the Webberville Baptist Church for over 40 years, sharing his love of our lord.

Norman was a cook. He loved to grill or smoke the deer, hogs, fish, and other game animals (pheasants) that he hunted/caught/raised. He processed his own meat, grew a large garden, and continued to live off the land as much as possible. He taught his kids and grandchildren how to safely hunt. He also taught them and many of their friends how to field dress.

Norman was a family man. He loved his family and was always ready lend a hand. He was an amazing PeePaw for his grandchildren.

"Don't mess up my hair!" He often joked, which led many to rub his head for good luck.

Norman is reunited in Heaven with his parents, Lige and Addie Brown; his brothers, Elwood, Elroy, Leroy, Leonard, and Sugie; his sisters, Frances, Betty Lou, and Bobby Jean; and his brothers-in-law, Harvey Kyser and Roy Howell.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Carolyn; his children, Lige & Susan Brown, Niki Brown, and Stephen Brown; his grandchildren, Mason Brown, Patrick Brown, Evelyn Cestone, Lizzy Cestone, Shawn Brown, Chris Raney, Layla Brown, and Alexis Raney; great-grandchildren, Leighton and Maddox; in-laws, David (Buck) Kyser, Charlie & Sherrilynn Kyser, Linda Howell, Dena Kyser, and Dorothy Jean Brown; and numerous nieces and nephews.
