Nelda Walenta

Nelda Mae Berggren Walenta,94, of New Sweden, passed away Sunday, February 12, 2023.  She was born on October 4, 1929, in New Sweden Texas. The child of Carl and Lou Elle Berggren, she graduated from Manor High School and met the love of her life, Mr. James Loving Walenta after WWII. She was a wife, mother, friend, and a child of God.

She was a wife of almost 69 years, through good and bad times. A couple that wrote to each other during WWII and met after the war. Ten days later they were married.  She was a mom and just like all mom’s, loved her children and did the best she could to take care of them, love them, supported them, disciplined them, gave, and did what she needed to do to help. She was a child of God. A firm believer in Christ and supportive of the church. A member of many church choirs and committees, she showed her love of Christ through her works.

She is preceded in death by her husband, James Loving Walenta; daughter, Sarah Mae Walenta; brother, Carol Berggren; sister, Clarice Smith.

Nelda is survived by her sons, Ronald James Walenta, and Brian Todd Walenta; granddaughters, Sarah Lise Brisco, and Rebekah Lynn Walenta; one great-grandson, Jaxon James.

She is now with her family in heaven awaiting the resurrection and the glory awaiting us all. May God Bless her family and all who knew her.

A Celebration of her life will be conducted at New Sweden Lutheran Church, Saturday, March 4th at 1:00 PM with Pastor Hans Lillejord presiding.  Interment will follow at New Sweden Cemetery.
