Mary Ellen Cody entered Eternal rest on Wednesday, April 13, 2022. Mary Ellen was born to the union of Bill Tate and Dessie Crowell on April 25, 1945, in Elgin, Texas. Mary attended the public schools of Bastrop County and graduated from Elgin High School and continued her education to build a career in the insurance business.
Mary Ellen Tate was united in Holy Matrimony to Clifford Charles Cody on July 11, 1992, at Bergstrom Air Force Base in Austin, Texas.
Mary Ellen was a devoted member and researcher of Bastrop History Association. Mary and Cliff were faithful members of Sayersville Historical Association for many years, working and maintaining the Oak Hill Cemetery. Mary would wear her favorite t-shirt, which stated: “When I get old, I don’t want people thinking, ‘What a sweet little old lady.’ I want them saying, “OH CRAP! What is she up to NOW?”
Mary Ellen is preceded in death by parents, and her stepson, Marvin Schwarzer.
In God’s care, to cherish her memory, Mary Ellen leaves her husband of thirty years, Clifford Cody, one brother, Bruce Barton, two stepdaughters, Peggy Schwarzer, and Denise and her husband, Mike Haskett, three step grandchildren and eight great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. Mary Ellen Tate Cody will be dearly missed y all who knew and loved her.
Family and Friends will gather for Visitation at Elgin Funeral Home, Tuesday, April 19th from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. A Celebration of Life was conducted graveside at Oak Hill Cemetery of McDade, Wednesday, April 20th at 10:00 AM with the Reverend, Jimmy Cottle presiding.
