Margy Woods, 97, of Elgin, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, April 27, 2021. Margy was born on Saturday, December 15, 1923, to Edwin Grady Ray a rancher and Vinnie Scott Ray a schoolteacher for over forty years. Margy liked to say she grew up in a highchair in a Mexican food restaurant in Corpus Christi. At the age of 19, she graduated from the University of Texas. Shortly after graduating, she worked in an oil refinery in Corpus Christi, where she met her future husband, Lt. Delmer M. Woods. He proposed on their third date, and they were married for forty years until his death in 1984.

Margy and Del had two children, Delmer Maurice Woods, Jr. and Kathryn Ray Woods Zaney. Early in their marriage, Margy taught school and devoted her entire life to her family. Over the years she was involved in numerous organizations including PEO, Roswell Garden Club, Geo Wives, and University Woman; serving at various times as President of each organization. Both Mrs. Woods and her husband were active members of the Presbyterian Church their entire lives. During her later years, Mrs. Woods traveled the world, visiting over 21 countries.

She was preceded in death by both parents, Edwin and Vinnie Ray; her husband, Delmar Woods; and her son, Delmer M. Woods Jr.

She is survived by her daughter, Kathryn Woods Zaney; three grandsons, Gregory Keith Zaney II, Matthew Alexander Zaney, and William Andrew Zaney; two great-granddaughters, Octavia Rae Zaney, and Zara Birdie Zaney; one cousin, Earlyne Robb; and numerous nieces and nephews. Margy will be remembered for her conservative values, her love of family, and positive attitude towards life. She was a woman of duty, and dignity. She was a strong Texas woman who stood by her values.

Honoring Margy with grace as pallbearers are: Gregory Zaney II, Matthew Zaney, William Zaney, Murry Woods, Jon Woods, Lt. Col. David Woods, III (USAF Ret.), Larry Kornegay, and Michael Portie.
