Lillian “Lil” Marie Brown, age 81, left this world to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, on November 8th, following a brief illness, at her home in Round Rock, TX.
Lil was born to Harry and Gertrude (Grosse) Kunkel on January 21, 1940, in a simple farmhouse during a snowstorm in McDade, TX, where she lived until the age of seven, with her parents and younger sister, until moving to Austin, where she remained in the area until her passing.
Growing up in Austin, she attended McCallum High School, where she played basketball and was a member of the fencing team. Following graduation, Lil went to work for Southwestern Bell Telephone where she worked as a switchboard operator, a position she absolutely loved. Following this position, she advanced in a career spanning almost 30 years, in a variety of roles in corporate administration and marketing, prior to her retiring from AT&T. Following her retirement, she spent time traveling and doting on her grandchildren, which were the epicenter of her world.
Lil wed Jim Brown on December 8, 1967, embarking on a lifelong adventure that would see them welcome two children, Lisa and Kevin, who would serve as the center of life’s pursuits. The passions of her family were her passions, whether those passions lay in watching her husband play steel guitar in country bands throughout Central Texas, orchestra concerts in which Lisa played, or little league games in which Kevin played; her support for her family and the joy she took from seeing their dreams realized was unparalleled. That joy was multiplied with the arrival of grandchildren. She was passionate about her family and wanted nothing more out of life than for those she loved to find and live in peace.
Lil is survived by her husband of 53 years, Jim Brown; daughter, Lisa and husband Bert Welge of Round Rock; son, Kevin Brown and wife Hadra of Austin; grandchildren, Elizabeth Welge, Jack Brown, and Emily Watkins; sister, Joyce Evans of Katy; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and many dear friends near and far.
Words cannot express the deep gratitude that her family has for the kindness and generosity offered by family and friends upon learning of Lil’s passing. We are so very blessed and thankful for their support. In lieu of flowers, charitable donations may be made in her name to Coats for Kids, or to a charity that will benefit children and families.
