Lawanda Walker-Karim

October 14, 1977 — August 17, 2018

Wow, I don’t know where to start.
I never would have expected my mother to be taken from
my sister, family, friends and myself so soon.
My mother was a hardworking,
dedicated,
caring,
big hearted,
loving,
beautiful,
inspirational,
and strong woman.
Her spirit and smiles could uplift a whole room.
There isn’t a thing my mother would not have done for
my sister and me.
She always put her loved ones’ problems in front of her because that’s just the type of person
my mother was kind and caring.
I know my mom is still with me and all of us.
My mother always stayed strong for us no matter what,
she would not let you see her defeated.
No matter what my mom and I went through at the end of the day she always had my back.
I know my mom always wanted the best for my sister and me,
and I am going to make her proud by getting through this,
and being strong for my sister and family.
My mom always loved my poems, this was one of her favorites:

Black Queen

I am a Black Queen…

Divine and Supreme

One of a kind.

My flow, my style; you’ll never find another with the kind like mine .

I am a Black Queen…

My presence turns heads.

I’m not worried about nothing negative said.

I stand tall!

Yes, I may stumble and fall.

I get right back up I ain’t got time to waste;

Don’t ever doubt a pretty face .

I am a Black Queen…

I don’t have patience for hate!

No, not today!

Take your negativity away;

Bow down on your knees and pray.

I am a Black Queen…

Black Queen

I am a Black Queen…

Divine and Supreme

One of a kind.

My flow, my style; you’ll never find another with the kind like mine .

I am a Black Queen…

My presence turns heads.

I’m not worried about nothing negative said.

I stand tall!

Yes, I may stumble and fall.

I get right back up I ain’t got time to waste;

Don’t ever doubt a pretty face .

I am a Black Queen…

I don’t have patience for hate!

No, not today!

Take your negativity away;

Bow down on your knees and pray.

I am a Black Queen…
