Jürgen Jack

December 13, 1940 — February 19, 2021

Elgin, Texas

Jürgen Alfred Jack, 80 years old, passed away suddenly February 19, 2021, at Texas Neurology Rehab Center in Austin, Texas.  He was born in Ebigen, Albstadt, Germany on December 13, 1940.

Jürgen was the beloved only son of Alfred and Emili Jäeck of Ebingen, Germany.  His parents were a lifelong resident of the Duchy of Swabia.  They were Southern Germans, now Swabia.  Jurgen was proud of his Suebi German heritage.

Jürgen’s father was a German prisoner of war in Italy.  He was wounded and captured on the Russian Front in 1943 by Americans.  Jürgen’s mother Emili, died of breast cancer in 1944, when Jürgen was only four years old.  At the age of 15 Jurgen came to the United States, under the sponsorship of the Reverend, Emerson and Lois Urelius of Fridley, MN.  He lived with the Urelius family in Fridley, MN and then in Round Rock, Texas.

Jurgen graduated from the University of Texas with a Bachelor of Business and was a member of Delta Sigma Pi.  During college, he worked at Scarborough’s department store in downtown Austin, where he met love of his life, Myrlene Johnston.  In May of 1962, the two were united in marriage.  After graduating college, Jürgen became an executive buyer for Sanger Harris of Dallas and later Macy’s department store of Atlanta, Ga.  He loved Atlanta, Ga - it was God’s country to him.  In his last years of his career, he retired from Austin Energy.

Jürgen loved life, family, and especially his daughters.  He lived his life for his family and would do anything for his girls.  He was an avid sports fan, especially the Dallas Cowboys.  He played Soccer as a youth and in Fridley, MN he enjoyed playing hockey.  Jurgen especially enjoyed Nascar with his sons-in-law, Kevin and Greg, along with his nephew, Kevin Johnston.  One of his most enjoyable things in his later years, was spending time drinking beer and speaking German with his nephew, Mike Johnston.  Jürgen had a small family but loved largely.
He is preceded in death by his daughter, Dana Michelle Jack; his parents, Alfred Jäeck and Emili Karr Jäeck; brother, Dwight Urelius and son-in-law, Greg Blackwell.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Myrlene Johnston Jack of Elgin; daughters, Monica Jack Blackwell of Ball Ground, Georgia and Vicki and husband Kevin Hicks of Elgin; brother, Don Urelius and wife Sandy of New Caney; sister, Mary Urelius Obrian of Georgetown; granddaughters, Cheryl Blackwell Bisso and husband Adam of Jasper, Georgia and Emily Blackwell and Todd Richards of Ballground, Georgia; great-granddaughters, Harlyn and Loretta Bisso; sister-in law, Bonnie Johnston Starr of Elgin; brother-in-law, Maness Johnston of Gonzales; cousins of Albstadt Germany, Anneilese Scheck and Margrit Mayer; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and dear friends.
