A Life Remembered
To know Joyce was to be loved by her. She loved Jesus more than anyone we’ve ever known—and right after that, she loved her family fiercely and without limits.
She had a soft spot for yellow roses, red earrings, red lipstick, and her beloved dog, Fonzie. She had a playful spirit—teasing her grandchildren with her dentures, going to garage sales with her daughter-in-law Michelle, and always dressing her best. She enjoyed camping, fishing, bonfires, singing, dancing, and trips to the beach. Live music was a huge part of her life. In her younger years, it was not uncommon to find her in the front yard surrounded by loved ones playing and singing old country and gospel music. Everyone was welcome; they’d bring their instruments and join right in! Above all, she loved to worship and sing praises to her Savior.
Joyce was elegant and down-to-earth. She was faithful, welcoming, and very thoughtful. She never met a stranger and would often do without so that someone else could have. She was beautiful inside and out, selfless, trusting, a fighter, and a cancer survivor.
When she was diagnosed in 2005 with stage four glioblastoma, the most rapid form of brain cancer there is, her neurosurgeon gave her 2 months to live. She looked him in the eye and told him, “I am NOT going to die; God’s not done with me. You don’t know when I am gonna die, only God knows when I am gonna die!” She was forced into retirement from Manor ISD, where she faithfully and lovingly served and taught Special Needs Children. She had a servant’s heart to her core, and people were her passion.
She was the heart of her family—the kind of woman who leaves a legacy of laughter, faith, and grace, but mostly LOVE.
