JoNell (Hancock) Majors

December 27, 1927 — July 8, 2025

Elgin, Texas

In loving memory of our beloved Mother, JoNell Majors, who was welcomed into the arms of her Heavenly Father on July 8, 2025. Born at home just two days after Christmas in 1927, to Arthur Russell Hancock and Vivian Buffa Hancock, JoNell embodied love and strength from her very first moments.

JoNell was raised in the serene surroundings of the old Oak Hill Community of Bastrop County, near McDade. Her idyllic childhood was forever changed in 1942 when the U.S. government took their family farm to establish Camp Swift, leading the Hancock family to the vibrant community of Elgin, Texas.

It was in Elgin that JoNell found love with Neal Majors, and together they nurtured a beautiful family with their three children: Kay, John, and Arthur. JoNell devoted herself not only to her children but also to her community, where she worked for many years as a talented hairdresser and was a cherished member of the Elgin Church of Christ.

A talented artist, JoNell expressed her creativity through watercolor, oil, and acrylics, capturing the beauty that surrounded her. Her deep appreciation for her heritage was cherished as a charter member of the Baron de Bastrop Chapter, D.R.T. She also had a profound love for nature and all living creatures.

When JoNell's earthly journey was concluded, she was reunited with those she loved dearly: her beloved husband, Neal; her sons John and Arthur Majors; both her parents; and her brothers, Harrell and Seth Hancock.

Her legacy of love lives on in the hearts of her cherished daughter, Kay and husband Tommy Valenta; her beloved grandchildren, Codie and husband Tommy Prinz, Amanda Frymire, and Clint Majors and wife Heather; nine great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; her daughter-in-law, Kita Majors; sister-in-law, Carol Hancock; and a host of nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Her unyielding love for her family and her genuine friendship will leave an indelible mark on all who knew her.

As we reflect on JoNell's life, we celebrate her spirit that will forever resonate in our hearts. She will be profoundly missed.

Family and Friends will gather for Visitation at Elgin Funeral Home, Saturday, July 19th from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM, followed by a Celebration of JoNell's Life at 2:00 PM.  She will be laid to rest at the Elgin Cemetery.
