"Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me." ~ Psalm 23:4
Jeremy Jermaine Brown, Sr. was born to Charles "Chuck" Brown, Sr., and Robie N. Brown on June 3, 1988, in Austin, TX—the first of three children born to Chuck and Robie. Affectionately nicknamed "Jay" by his family, he and his sister Deann and brothers Dominic and Charles Jr. were trained up together in the way of the Lord under the watchful eye of his beloved paternal grandmother, Dorothy Brown, a faithful servant at the Rising Star Missionary Baptist Church (Rising Star) in Austin, Texas. As a teen, Jeremy accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at Rising Star and spent many years participating in the church's Sunday School and other youth activities.
With the family's move to Bastrop, Jeremy became a "Bastrop Bear" and excelled in athletics, especially basketball. After graduating from Bastrop Independent School District, his love for basketball led him to coach youth basketball. He taught those coached the game's nuances and the importance of teamwork and perseverance.
While attending the Upward Bound program at historic Huston-Tillotson University, Jay tested the boundaries of education and cemented lasting relationships with many fellow students.
From an early age, Jeremy was surrounded by the strength and unity that his family provided him. These unbreakable bonds reinforced his spirit and provided the foundation that carried him through life's ups and downs. Jay's love for his children, Zoi Yvonne, Jeremy Jr., Josiah, and Jiovanni Brown, was a reflection of the support and love he received from his family.
Heaven-bound Jeremy removed his cloak of mortality and transitioned to immortality on Saturday, September 21, 2024. His grandparents, D.C., Winnie Brown, and Joseph and Dorothy Brown preceded him into the Kingdom of God. In his passing, Jeremy found eternal peace and rest, a comfort to those he left behind.
He is survived by many loving family members, including his father, Charles Brown Sr.; mother, Robie Brown; daughter, Zoi Yvonne Brown; sons Jeremy (Jr.), Josiah, and Jiovanni Brown; brothers, Charles Jr. and Dominic (Bria) Brown; sister, Deann Brown; a host of nieces, nephews; aunts, uncles, cousins, and many close friends.
He will Lie in State at Elgin Funeral Home, Friday, October 4th from 5:00 PM until 6:00 PM. Family and Friends will gather for a Home-Going Celebration at Lone Star Missionary Baptist Church on Saturday, October 5th, at 2:00 PM, with Pastor Melvin Ikner presiding. Interment will follow at Shiloh Cemetery.
