Janell Collins Lawhon

March 17, 1934 — February 12, 2024

Mansfield, Texas

Janell C. Lawhon, 89, of Mansfield, Texas, joined her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Monday, February 12, 2024.

Janell was born on March 17, 1934, to Ernest and Lucy Collins, in Travis County, Texas.  Throughout her childhood, she attended school while also working with her parents and siblings.

No stranger to hard work, at the age of 18, Janell began the greatest work of her life – motherhood – with the birth her first of five children.  While raising her family, she worked a variety of jobs, primarily in manufacturing, and briefly owned her own business.  In the mid-1990s, Janell retired from Xetel, after more than fifteen years of service, to spend more time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

All who knew Janell would attest to her fun-loving, competitive nature, whether playing ‘42’ with her family and friends, rooting on her favorite football team – the Dallas Cowboys –, or fishing for bass, catfish, or crappie.  In fact, during her last fishing outing, she was quick to point out to all the family surrounding her that she had not only caught largest fish but also the most – not including a large catfish that ‘just’ got away.

Janell was proceeded in death by husband, Tommy Lawhon; her parents, Ernest and Lucy Collins; and her siblings, Joe Collins, Hellen Ferguson, and LaVerne Abbott.

She is survived by her brother, Larry Collins and wife, Luchyne, of Spicewood, Texas; her children, Glenda Holloway and husband, Tommy, of Chattanooga, Tennessee, Deborah (Stacks) Greinert and husband, Doug, of Thorndale, Texas, Gene Hartgrove, of Coppers Cove, Texas, Mona Dunham and husband, Art, of Fort Worth, Texas, and David Lawhon, of Huntsville, Texas; her grandchildren, Angela Shepherd, Mark Holloway, Patrick Stacks, Matthew Dunham, Autumn Shaffer, Jacob Dunham, Tyler Hartgrove, Wyatt Goertz, and Tatum Hartgrove; as well as, twelve great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
