Irene (Nunez) Ubias

Irene Nunez Ubias of Elgin passed away peacefully in her home on Sunday, June 15, 2025, at the age of 76. Born in Elgin, Texas, on March 27, 1949, she was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Irene will be remembered for her warmth, generosity, and her unwavering dedication to her family. She had an exceedingly kind, thoughtful, and caring personality.

Irene was united in Holy Matrimony to Casimiro Ubias, Sr., for 59 years, and they had a strong and happy marriage until she passed from years of Dementia. She loved gardening, spending time with her family camping, and starting a “Christmas cookie” tradition with her grandchildren.

Irene was preceded in death by both her parents, Samuel and Janie Nunez, three brothers, and one sister.

Irene is survived by her husband, Casimiro Ubias Sr., her children; Christina Villarreal (Mario), Casimiro Ubias Jr. (Monika), and Adalia Mata (Raymond), Grandchildren; Angela Ubias, Krystal Hernandez, Ashley Corral (Saul), Ruben Hernandez Jr., Adrian Mata, Anthony Mata, Kayla Villarreal, Matthew Ubias, six great-grandchildren, three brothers, five sisters, and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

 A visitation will be held at Elgin Funeral Home from 5:00PM until 7:00PM Thursday, June 19, 2025, with a recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00PM. A Celebration of Christian Funeral Mass will be conducted at Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Elgin, Friday, June 20, at 11:00 AM. Christian Burial will follow at Elgin Latin Cemetery.
