Horace Lee Johns Jr., also known as “Buster,” was born on January 11, 1951, in Austin, Texas, to his beloved parents, Annie Ruth (Landren) Johns and Horace Johns. He was the third of ten children. Horace transitioned to his Eternal Rest on December 11, 2025, in Austin, Texas.

Horace attended Pflugerville High School. He met and married Brenda Davis, and their union was blessed with three children: Maurice, Shalon, and Sabrina. Over the years, he was blessed with additional children, Bernard and Sherylynn. His journey included sharing three more children—Joshua, Jeremiah, and Jasmine, and their mother, Yvette Hudspeth, who held a very special place in his heart.

Horace was a gifted chef who poured love into every meal he prepared, especially his barbecue. He found great joy in bringing people together through food. Outside the kitchen, he enjoyed fishing, working on cars, and playing dominoes—moments that often turned into laughter-filled memories with family and friends. He was also blessed with a God-given talent for singing and loved songs such as “Let the Light from the Lighthouse Shine on Me” and “Save a Seat for Me.”

Horace leaves to cherish his seventy-four years of memories to his three sons: Maurice Davis (Ivory), Joshua Patrick (Valerie), and Jeremiah Johns (Rilee); three daughters: Jasmine Hudspeth (Dominique), Sheryl Rivera (Paul), and Sabrina Johns (Kenneth); five sisters: Bertha Smith (Tommy), Ruth Vaults, Brenda Spann (Leo), Vanessa Gould (Alvin), and Gladys; three brothers: Willie Johns (Cindy), Rory Johns, and Bobby "Dee" Johns (Pam); along with a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews; and a true friend to the end, Yvette Hudspeth.

Horace was preceded in death by his mother, Annie Ruth (Landren) Johns; his father, Horace Johns; his brother, Timothy Johns; his two sons, Bernard Alexander and Shalon Johns; and his wife, Brenda Johns.

Above all else, Horace deeply loved his family. His presence, guidance, and love were constant sources of strength. A very spiritual man, his faith carried him through life and inspired those around him. Though his passing was sudden and heartbreaking, his legacy lives on through the lives he touched and the memories that will forever be cherished.

Serving with Honor and Grace as Pallbearers are Jeremiah Johns, Joshua Patrick, Royal Johns, Maurice Davis Jr., Bobby Johns Jr., Davion Aldridge, and Lamont Traylor.
