Mother Helen B. Edwards

Mother's Legacy....

Helen Beatrice Simpson was born on June 6, 1933 to Hydenure Lavera (Joshua) and Hulon Simpson in Reagan, Falls County, Texas. She was the first born of seven children. She attended school in Reagan and at Marlin Booker T. Washington schools. 

Helen accepted Christ on May 29, 1949. She was filled with the Holy Ghost on June 6th of the same year in Marlin, Texas at the Power House Church Of God in Christ under the leadership of Elder F. M. Thompson. 

She married Elder Lelton Eugene Edwards, Sr., the love of her life, in 1956. To this union two sons were born, Lelton Eugene, Jr and Ronald Rae. 

Mother Edwards began her aspiring Missionary work in 1966 at Power House Church of God in Christ. She was licensed in Deming, New Mexico at the Devine Church of God in Christ, where her husband pastored until his death in 1972. She was promoted to National Evan-gelist Missionary in 1971. Mother Edwards served under several Pas-tors in New Mexico and Texas in various capacities including Youth Di-rector, President Young People Willing Workers, President/Vice Presi-dent of Bible Band and Church Mother. She held District and State level offices.. 

Due to her mother’s illness she moved back to Texas in 1989. She was privileged to go back to where the Lord had saved and filled her with the Holy Ghost.

After moving to Austin, she joined Faith Cathedral Church Of God in Christ under Superintendent Dennis E. Watson. She served faithfully until her health declined. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lelton Edwards, Sr; father and mother, Hulon and Hydenure Simpson; three sisters, Joyce Simpson, Drucy Hughes, Marjorie Denson; and a grandson, Lelton Charles Kemp. 

Left to cherish her memories are two sons, Lelton and Ronald Edwards of Austin TX, two sisters, Myrtle Armstead of Denver, CO and Ruby Neely (Booker) of Bonham, TX, four granddaughters, one grandson, ten great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who have come into her life for a season or lifetime.

Helen B. Edwards, 90, of Pflugerville, passed away peacefully Monday, January 8, 2024.  Services are currently pending.
