Gloria Jean Lackey

June 7, 1946 — November 17, 2023

Gloria Jean Lackey, 77, of Austin, passed away on Friday, November 17, 2023.  Gloria Jean Bryan, affectionately known as “Jean” was born on June 7, 1946, to Woodrow Wilson Bryan and Mary Bell Scott.  On January 6, 1973, Jean married Douglas Lackey, and the couple celebrated over 49 years of marriage before he passed away in April of 2022.

Jean worked for the Secretary of State of Texas as a clerk in the UCC office and as an Election Inspector, ensuring elections were run fairly.  After she finally retired, she took a part-time job with JC Pennys.

She was a faithful member of the Brentwood Oaks Church of Christ, First Baptist Church of Pflugerville, and the Round Rock Church of Christ.  At First Baptist, she enjoyed singing in the choir, serving on the hospitality committee and as a Sunday School Teacher.

Jean was an avid reader and loved working crossword puzzles.  Often time, she and Doug would take Scott camping throughout Texas and Colorado.  She loved watching basketball, especially the Baylor Lady Bears.

Jean was preceded in death by both her parents and her husband, Douglas Lackey; sister-in-law, Sandra Spindle; brother-in-law, Bruce Hagen; and nephew, Brett Jackson.  Oh, what a glorious reunion it was when Jean was reunited with all those who had gone before her.

Jean is survived by her only son, Scott Lackey and daughter-in-law, Jill Lackey; her granddaughter, Charlotte Lackey; her two sisters, Pat Jackson and husband Lee Jackson and Penny Hagen; her brother-in-law, Richard Spindle; her nephews and nieces, Brian Jackson and wife Kristi, Amy and husband Grady Bruce, Lara and husband Garry Ingalsbe, and Allison and husband Chris Carlson; and numerous extended family and dear friends.

Serving with grace and honor as Pallbearers are Chirs Carlson, Jeff Nelson, Bill Sanders, John Langley, Garry Ingalsbe, and Keller Jackson.

Family and Friends will gather at Elgin Funeral Home, Saturday, November 25th beginning at 1:00 PM, followed by a Celebration of Life at 2:00 PM, with Brother Brian Jackson presiding.  Interment will follow a Youngs Prairie Cemetery.
