Evelyn "Pink" Hill

January 21, 1960 — September 12, 2022

Elgin, Texas

On Monday, September 12, 2022, God plucked up a “Pink “flower by the name of Evelyn Faye Hill and welcomed her home to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  Her baby son, Fredrick; brother Robert Jr.; grandparents; Sercy and Linda Simmons, Aaron Gibson and Irene Knox welcomed her to Heaven’s Door with open arms.

A beautiful baby girl was born on January 21, 1960, to Robert and Erma Simmons in Elgin Texas was affectionately nicknamed “Pink” by her family and “Honey” by her grandchildren.

Evelyn “Pink” gave her life to Christ at an early age while at Pleasant Bethany under the leadership of the late Reverend J.E. James.  This is where Evelyn’s “Pink” love for GOD, Family and Community was instilled.

Evelyn “Pink” a woman after God’s own heart opened her heart to Kelly Bernard Hill Sr.  on June 5, 1995, where they blended two families and began to raise four children, Deshon, Astarta, Kelly Jr., Tasha. Later in their union, they were blessed with Sonja to bridge their love and family.  Opening their family hearts even wider they adopted a son, Johnny.  Raising their children to love and serve the Lord, the family attended Mt. Carmel Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Q.S. Goins and now Pastor Byron K. Green. In their union, once again opened they opened their heart and home to provide love and shelter to four of their grandchildren.   Evelyn’s “Pink” showed her children and grandchildren the love of GOD through her tireless efforts by being a supporting wife, mother, and daughter.  In this house, the family practiced the Hill Open-door Policy. It simply meant when one of the children needed to talk the adults stop what they are doing and listened.

Evelyn “Pink” served at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church as a youth director, choir member and in the “We Care” ministries under the leadership of Pastor Byron K. Green.  She also worked in the community for over 30 years at Travis State School, Elgin ISD, and later Home Health Care, until her health started to limit her ability to serve and work.

Evelyn “Pink” leaves to cherish her memory; Husband; Kelly Bernard Hill; Daughters; Deshon Leshell Hill, Elgin Texas, Astarta Tameka Simmons (Vince), Tasha Mae Hill both of Austin Texas, Sonja Michelle Hill of Elgin Texas, Sons; Kelly Bernard Hill Jr. (Octavia) of Bastrop Texas, Johnny Robbins of Austin Texas, Parents; Erma Jean Simmons and Robert Dupree Simmons of Elgin Texas.  A host of nieces and nephews, grandchildren, aunts and uncles, family, and friends.

Evelyn Faye Hill, 62,  will lie in state at Elgin Funeral Home, Friday, September 16th from 12:00 PM until 5:00 PM.  Family and Friends will gather for Visitation at Mount Carmel Missionary Baptist Church, Friday, September 16th from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM.  A Home-Going Celebration will be conducted at Mount Carmel Missionary Baptist Church, Saturday, September 17th at 11:00 AM with Pastor Byron Green presiding.  Interment will follow at Sayers Cemetery.
