On October 24, 1945, Ola Mae Butler and Collis Colvin welcomed a baby girl into the world. They named her Emma Ruth Colvin, lovingly known to all as Ruthie.

Ruthie was educated in Elgin, Texas, and proudly graduated from Booker T. Washington School. Throughout her working years, she began her career in the healthcare industry, later served with Austin ISD, and spent the majority of her professional life at Tracor/BAE Systems, where she retired after many years of dedicated service.

At a very early age, Ruthie dedicated her life to Christ. She was a faithful member of Pleasant Bethany Baptist Church and, in later years, a devoted member of Straight Gate Fellowship Baptist Church, where she continued to walk steadfastly in her faith.

While Ruthie took pride in her professional accomplishments, her greatest joy and most fulfilling role was being an aunt and mother figure to Byron, Jarvis, and Sherri, whom she devoted her life to. Her love and care extended well beyond them, as she faithfully nurtured and supported numerous nieces and nephews throughout the years.

Ruthie was fiercely independent, exceptionally organized, and one of the neatest individuals you could ever meet. She possessed a strong and unwavering faith in God and was deeply protective of her family. Her life was filled with purpose—she lived fully, loved deeply, and cherished a small but steadfast circle of friends.

Those remaining to cherish her precious memories are her sister, Oreal Lockridge of Austin, Texas, and her brother, Overseer Claudell Monroe Sr. (Sharon) of Mansfield, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, James and Maurice.

The world is truly a better place because Ruthie was in it.

The epitome of elegance and steadfast faith, Emma Ruth Colvin, 80, entered Eternal rest on December 18, 2025. Family and Friends will gather for a Visitation at Elgin Funeral Home from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Friday, January 2, 2026. A Celebration of Ruthie's Life will be on Saturday, January 3rd, at 11:00 AM at Winn's Memorial Baptist Church. The interment will follow at Sayers Cemetery.
