Elizabeth Stayton

Elizabeth Rivers Stayton passed away Friday evening, June 3, 2011. She was born September 9, 1914 to Lucy Blocker Rivers and William Howard Rivers, Jr. in Elgin, Texas, and is a 4th generation Texan. She graduated from Elgin High School at age 16 and went to college at Sophie Newcomb in New Orleans. She pledged Kappa Alpha Theta and was initiated at Theta national convention in Estes Park, CO. As a teenager she began training as a classical pianist in New York City. She returned to Texas to complete college at the University of Texas graduating Phi Beta Kappa.
