Elizabeth Johnson

February 20, 1920 — April 21, 2019

Jewel Elizabeth Johnson, or Beth as she was known by all, was a devoted wife, beloved mother, and joyful grandmother. A lifelong resident of Elgin, Beth died in her home on Easter Sunday, April 21, 2019 at the age of 99.

Beth was born on February 20, 1920 to Lewis and Mary Iva Fisher. After graduating from high school, she married Arville Johnson on November 10, 1938. They celebrated 64 years of marriage together before his death in 2003. They raised two sons, Wayne and Floyd, and two daughters, Margaret and Mary Beth. She was a supportive, loving mother who was always involved in her children's school activities and adopted their friends as her own. When she became a grandmother, she always kept the cookie jar full and sewed homemade costumes, doll clothes, and crocheted baby blankets for all.

Beth was our beloved family food historian, always telling stories about the family and where recipes came from. She could cook anything and make it taste like the the best thing you ever ate. Her kolaches and macaroni and cheese are legendary and she taught us all the art of loving your family through cooking.

Beth was a devoted lifelong member of First United Methodist Church and served in her local Masonic Lodge in the Order of the Eastern Star. She was an avid gardener and enthusiastic Longhorn baseball fan who rarely missed a home game. She enjoyed watching Longhorn football as well and made sure she left time to cheer on the Rangers and Cowboys too.

She is survived by her children: Wayne and Donna Johnson of Missouri City, Floyd and Lynn Johnson of Elgin, Margaret Johnson of Elgin, and Mary Beth and Tony Scott of Southlake; her grandchildren: Becky and Larry Hamilton, Michael Johnson, Shelley and Mike Pinkerton, Mark Johnson and Omar Umayam, Robert Johnson and Dimitri Parker, Sarah Scott, Meredith and Austin Griffin, Caroline Scott, Jeffrey Johnson and Katie McFarland, Kristin Johnson and Trevor Andrews; her great-grandchildren: Kathryn and Jon Weiler, Jonathan Hamilton, Calum Hamilton, Allison Andrews, Luke Griffin, Hadley Johnson, Chase and Brittani Kutach, Emilyn Kutach, Autumn Pinkerton; as well as two sisters-in-law, Dolores Johnson and Wyonda Johnson, and numerous loving nieces and nephews.

Beth's generous smile, twinkling eyes, and contagious laughter are treasured memories now. She was a beautiful inspiration on how to age gracefully and a blessing to all who knew her.

Family and friends will gather at the Elgin Funeral Home on Wednesday, April 24th from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. The funeral service will be conducted at the First United Methodist Church on Thursday, April 25th at 1:00 PM with interment following at the Elgin Cemetery.
