Life’s Epitome
“Old soldiers never die, Never die, never die
Old soldiers never die — They simply fade away.
Old soldiers never die, Never die, never die,
Old soldiers never die — Young ones wish they would.”
“Now somewhere, there stands the man
His duty o’er and won
The world will ne’er forget him
To him we say, ‘Well done.’
Deacon Raymond Vincent
Earthly Arrival – July 21, 1945
Heaven Departure – August 23, 2022
Mr. Raymond Vincent, a lifelong resident of Elgin Community, was born on July 21, 1945, to Marion Vincent and Katherine Thomas Vincent in Elgin, Bastrop County, Texas.
Raymond grew up with a strong Christian foundation and Godly parents; Raymond accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Mount Moriah Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend R. A. Westbrooks. Raymond attended Booker T. Washington High School in Elgin, Texas. Upon graduating he joined the United States Army, where he served in the Vietnam War and finished up with the National Army Guard. Raymond received many ribbons and medals including, a Bronze Star Medal, and rank to Staff Sergeant before retiring with twenty-five years. He paid his dues at Elgin Brick Yard, and Austin State School. Raymond’s last job was at a group home for Adults with disabilities.
On February 14, 1970, Raymond was united in Holy Matrimony to Elois Jean Cook. They combined their families together and became the favorite Uncle and Aunt, raising many children including grandchildren. The couple was famous and known as Diamond and Lady Diamond of Elgin on the citizens band radio, talking short and long distance. They were favored with forty-eight years of marriage at the time her passing in 2018.
Raymond took a step to his church, Mount Moriah, and all the members caught his hands, and they made many steps togethers. He became very active, volunteering in all the ministries. When covid-19 hit, all the seniors stayed home and joined service by phone. Raymond was one that learned the media fast, and one of the first to returned to the building. He was placed on trial for the Deacon Board, he studied his book and the Bible, asking questions and holding steadfast. He was ordained on March 13, 2022.
On August 23rd, the bugle horn was sound and Raymond, the solider took his final command, and went HOME!
I have finished a good fight…I have finished my course…
