My Declaration…
I have fought a good fight,
I have finished my course,
I have kept the faith.
II Timothy 4:7
Words cannot express the humility in this man we called Husband, Daddy, Grandpa, Uncle, Cousin, Friend, Christian, Child of God…
Deacon Ulysses S. Loving Sr. gained wings and flew to be with the Lord with his family by his side. Ulysess, often called “C,” was a long-time resident of Taylor and Elgin. On November 4th, the community and surrounding cities began to mourn the passing of a strong and upright citizen, a local black business owner.
C Loving was born on February 22, 1952, in Taylor, Texas, to the late Herman Sr. and Jerline Loving. He was one of five children raised in a close-knit family. Ulysses graduated from Elgin High School and later received his trade at Gary Job Corps. After obtaining his certification as a Master Carpenter, he worked in union construction, Local 1266.
Ulysses met the love of his life, Raynell Sephus, on May 9, 1969. Their connection was immediate, and they were united in Holy Matrimony on January 10, 1970. This started a beautiful journey, and they were blessed with thirteen children.
Ulysses was successful in the construction business. As part of the union, he was given the opportunity to form his own company, which he named – Loving Construction. He was very proud of his thriving business. He was highly respected as a Black business owner and a well-known Black cowboy in Texas, leaving a legacy in both fields.
Ulysses was a devout Christian who accepted Christ as his Savior and remained faithful throughout his life. Deacon's favorite scripture was Psalm 1:1, which reflected his strong principles and commitment to living a righteous life. He served many ministries in and around the community. He was indeed a praying deacon, traveling East with Lodge Number 207 F. & A. M. – Most Worshipful Prince Hall of Ft. Worth, Texas.
Deacon Loving’s heavenly departure was on Monday, November 4, 2024, and his victory with God began. Waiting in heaven are his children, Leslie Loving Sr. plus three others; his parents, Herman Sr. and Jerline Loving; his siblings, Herman Jr., Herbert Ray, Winne Sue, and Waymon Loving; and his beloved grandchildren, Raiana Loving, Messiah Newman, and Victoria Newman.
Deacon Loving leaves in God’s hands to share his legacy: his wife of fifty-five years – Raynell Loving; his children: Ulysses Loving Jr. (Natasha), Robert Loving (Virginia), Penelope White (Mark), Charlene Thompson (Otis), Brian Loving Sr. (Antoinette), Victoria Newman (Marcus), Aubrey Loving Sr. (Danielle), Dominique Loving (Lonnie), Roeshon Loving (Damien), a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of cousins and other relatives yielding four and five generations, including his church family.
Deacon Loving’s life was one of love, faith, and hard work. His legacy will continue to inspire those who knew him, and he will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and community.
