Deacon Cornie Gene Morrison heard God call his name. On Tuesday, April 22, 2025, he said farewell to this earth and went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Gene Morrison was one of nine children, six boys and three girls, born to the late Will and Ola Mae Morrison. He was born in Bastrop County, Texas, and was blessed by God to live 86 years.
Gene was united in Holy Matrimony to his wife of sixty-one years, Alma Marie Baker Morrison. They grew up together in Utley, Texas, and after years of Gene showing interest in Alma, she finally took his hand in marriage on June 23, 1963. Together, they were blessed to give birth to two daughters, Lisa and Kimberly, and they shared six grandchildren. He loved his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Gene was a man of many talents. He was a former cook, truck driver, and roofer. After over 30 years of service as a roofer, he retired as a Warehouse Supervisor at ABC Supply. He was the Founder of A & E Riders Trail Riding Club, which he later renamed The Road Runners Riding Club, whose members consisted of family and friends. His grandsons Jeron Morrison, Evan Kenney, and De’Andre Wheeler committed to continuing his legacy and representing the Road Runners for years to come.
In his Christian life, he was a member of Union Hill Missionary Baptist Church, serving under the late Pastor J.D. Cleveland and Pastor Aubrey Jackson. He served as a Deacon, a choir member, and the President of the Men’s Choir.
Gene enjoyed spending time with family, friends, church members, and his trail riding family. He was truly a family man who believed in unity, love, and peace amongst family. He loved the Lord and was a firm believer that “a family who prayed together, stayed together.” Over the years, he looked forward to Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings with his family, but he also made sure that throughout the year, his family got together and enjoyed delicious food, good music, and fellowship with one another.
Preceding Gene Morrison in death are his parents, Will and Ola Mae Morrison; sisters, Mattie Lee Hawkins, Lillie B Williams; brothers, Sam Morrison, Willie “Ball” Morrison, Carl Lee Morrison, Sr.; and son, Cornie “Daff” Ockletree.
Although we grieve, we celebrate and honor the legacy that Gene, our “Paw”, has left, for he will be dearly missed. He is survived by his beautiful loving wife, Alma “Maw” Morrison and their daughters Lisa Morrison (Fred) & Kimberly Morrison Pegues; children, Diane Scott (Michael), Connie Hornsby (Kevin), Sharon Ockletree, Malcom Wheeler (Barbara); Sister, Ruby Jo Ockelberry (Eddie) and Brothers, Charles Morrison (Georgia) and Johnny Lee Morrison. Holding dear to his memory, he leaves numerous, gifted grandchildren and great-grandchildren who proudly called him Pa-Paw, a host of special nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors, other relatives, friends, and family.
A Home-Going Celebration will be held at Family Worship Center, under the auspices of Union Hill Baptist Church, on Saturday, May 3rd at 11:00 AM with Pastor Randolph Cleveland presiding. Interment will follow at Colorado Chapel.
