Curley Thomas, Jr.

June 7, 1948 — March 31, 2020

Elgin, Texas

Curley Thomas, Jr., 71, of Elgin passed away Tuesday morning, March 31, 2020.  His body will lay in state at Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church on Friday, April 3rd from 9:00 AM until 7:00 PM.  A private Home-Going Celebration will be conducted at the Littig Cemetery on Saturday, April 4th with the Reverend Steven Ward presiding.

Curley Thomas, Jr. was born on June 7, 1948, in Elgin, Texas, to Curley Thomas and Lillie Mae Ward.  Curley grew up in Bastrop County attending the public schools of EISD.  Curley professed his love for Christ at a very early age, joined the family church, Mount Moriah Missionary Baptist Church, and was baptized under the direction of the late Pastor R. A. Westbrook.  He continued to attend church and grew his love for Christ throughout his childhood and teenage years.

Curley married Gloria Collins, and this union was blessed with three children, Curley, III, Shadrick, and Kesha. They relocated to Houston, Texas.

Curley’s journey was off to a fast start, facing his own ups and down.  Curley united in holy matrimony to the love of his life, Dorothy Elaine Thomas and her two children, Crystal and Antwan.  He called her his First Lady. The new family welcomed their first born, Courtney. Elaine often spoke of Curley as being the best husband and father anyone could ask for.  Their journey took hold for thirty-three years at the time of his passing.

Curley was a hardworking man, in the construction field, Capital Chevrolet, before landing a job with Dell Computers, where he worked for thirteen years.  Curley was a people person, always looking for something better and more exciting to do.  He created the C. T. Production which kept the city and surrounding counties with live entertainment.  He promoted artist such as: Mel Waters, Sir. Charles Jones, T. K. Soul, Marvin Cease and so many others.  He was a Promoter for the entertainment industry.  As time took over, Curley slowed his life down and took a job as a security guard for Star Security. Curley’s journey took another turn and he became devoted to sharing family time with his children and grandchildren; enjoying sports and naming the Dallas Cowboys as his team of choice and watching movies with family and friends.

On March 31, 2020, Curley joined a team of Angels and heard the Lord, the greatest promoter, say: “You've fought a good fight and have finished your course and kept the faith, come on home to your eternal rest.”  His final turn in his journey…

To know Curley was to know a friend to all. He cared and loved with passion and true concern, he was always calm in the midst of a storm. He is preceded in death by his parents, and grandparents, and his brother, Larry Thomas.

Curley will be greatly missed, continued to be loved and appreciated for his legacy, and will be cherished by his loving wife, Dorothy Elaine Thomas, his nine wonderful children, Courtney Thomas and his wife, Whitney, Crystal Williams, Antwan Williams, Curley Thomas, III and his wife, Tina, Shadrick Thomas, Keisha Thomas, Kevin Nunn, Patrice Jefferson, and Boosie; eleven Grandchildren: Courtney (Lil C) Thomas, Camien Thomas, Krysten Thomas, Kendall Thomas, Jordan Thomas, Amber Thomas, Ashley Thomas, Sherika Thomas, Aliyiah Thomas, Kiara Carter, and Jordan Jefferson; his only  sister, Sharon Roberson, two Nephews, Kenny Thomas and Manuel Roberson; a very special Mother-in-law, Dorothy J. Williams; and a host of other relatives and friends covering three and four generations.

With every breath we take, we will be missing you…
