Carolyn Ann Voelker Sandlin, a cherished resident of Elgin, transitioned from this earthly life to her Eternal Home at the graceful age of 94 on Wednesday, July 31, 2024. Born on June 16, 1930, in Eglin, Texas, Carolyn was a beloved daughter of Albert and Anna Voelker. She found solace in her faith being baptized and confirmed at Saint Peter’s Lutheran Church.
Carolyn graduated from Elgin High School with the Class of ’48. She furthered her studies at Southwest Texas, now known as Texas State University, earning a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education. Embarking on a fulfilling career in education, she dedicated herself to nurturing young minds at Thorndale Independent School District before relocating to Corpus Christi. There, she continued her impactful journey as a second-grade educator within the Corpus Christi Independent School District until her well-deserved retirement.
In 1994, Carolyn returned to Elgin, drawn by the love and warmth of her dear family. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness and devotion that will forever be treasured. Carolyn was preceded in death by her loving parents and two brothers: Albert Neill Voelker and his wife Ina as well as Frank Lynn Voelker.
Remaining to cherish the fond memories of her are her devoted sister-in-law, Charlotte Voelker; caring nephew Kyle Voelker and his wife Mary; as well as her great-nephew Klayton Voelker, great-niece Madison Voelker, and extended family and dear friends. Known for loving unconditionally, Carolyn's absence will be deeply felt by those whose lives she touched.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the extraordinary caregivers Juanita, Marva, and Angela for their exceptional care and unwavering companionship throughout Carolyn's journey.
A gathering to honor and celebrate Carolyn’s remarkable life will take place graveside at Elgin Cemetery on Saturday, August 3rd at 9:00 AM. May fond memories of our beloved Carolyn bring comfort to all who knew and loved her during this time of reflection and remembrance.
