Brenda Garcia

Brenda Gay Garcia, 61, of Elgin Texas, passed away the morning of June 20, 2023, surrounded by her loving family after battling 5 years of cancer.  She was born July 22, 1961, in Taylor Texas, to Stanley and Shirly Nelson.

She attended Elgin High School and was a member of the band where she played the flute.  Brenda started her career at the age of 19 for Elgin Butler Brick and proudly provided 43 years of service.

She enjoyed watching baseball, watching, and attending grandkid’s sports activities where she did not mind at all voicing her opinions on Umpire calls.  Brenda really loved vacationing at the beach and spending quality time with her family to whom she devoted her life too.

It would be wrong to say that Brenda lost her battle because she never stopped fighting. No matter how sick she was, she was always determined. When anyone else would have broken, Brenda stayed strong. Through her, we know what resilience and perseverance truly look like. There was no quitting for Brenda. Just because she is no longer here, it doesn’t mean she lost her fight.

She was preceded in death by her father, Stanley Nelson; mother, Shirley Nelson; and brother, Clifford Nelson.

She is survived by her spouse, Edward Piña Jr.; siblings, Debbie Sunvison (Joe), Joe Nelson (Donna), Jeffery Nelson, Bradley Nelson (Kim), Jason Nelson (Robbie); children, Chris Nelson (Maria), Elizabeth Robertson (Cedric) Michael Garcia (Madison); grandchildren, Jon Michael, Kaitlyn, Leah, Cedric Jr., Caleb, Ceana, Jeremiah, Gabriel; great grandchildren, Michael Alexander and Cedric III, and numerous family and friends.

Family and friends will gather for a Visitation at Elgin Funeral Home from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM.  A Funeral Service will be held at Elgin Funeral Home at 10:00 AM with Pastor Teague presiding.  Interment will follow at Type Cemetery.
