Artis Roberts

December 7, 1936 — April 6, 2017

On December 7, 1936, in the small town of Bartlett, Texas in Williamson County, Monroe Roberts and Carrie Thompson were blessed with a gift from God, a set of twins buys, Otis and Artis. As Artis joins his twin, we pen this obituary for Artis Roberts who was blessed to have been raised by his parents, Carrie and Ernest Townsend. He grew up in Bastrop County and professed a hope in Christ at an early age and was baptized at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Elgin.

During the course of Artis’s life, he lived in North Caroline, where he met his first love, Marie Savoy. This union was blessed with two children, Sonya and Jeffery. Working in the Construction field, he learned the trade of moving houses. As his journey of life continued, he returned to Texas, settling in Temple. He was united in holy matrimony to Yolanda Lewis, and to this union two children were born, Colanda and Kristopher. He continued his trade in construction, working with asphalt. Artis dedicated his life to God, and joined Antioch Baptist Church. Being a God fearing man, he became a faithful member of the church and was ordained as a deacon. As the story rolls on, his health began to fail. He moved home to be close to his family and friends. His love grew strong for his family as they became his caregivers one by one. He was also the greatest cheerleader for his grandchildren and no one was allowed to spank them in his presence.

Artis s heavenly departure was on Thursday, April 6, 2017, and his victory with God began. Artis is preceded in death by his parents, his twin, Otis, and a sister, Lula Parker.

Artis, affectingly known as Mule leaves in God’s hands to cherish his memories: children – Sonya Savoy Roberts of Lake Charles, LA; Jeffery Roberts of Cameron, LA; Colanda Roberts (Adrian) and Kristopher Roberts of Elgin; four brothers – Raymond Townsend (Willie Mae), Ernest Townsend (Doris), James Townsend (Mildred) and Eddie Townsend (Mary); sisters – Faye Dean Townsend (Frank), and Dolores Boyd (Elmer); nine and one on the way grandchildren, three great grandchildren;, two Uncles – LJ Thompson and Eddie Thompson both of California and one Aunt – Ida James Townsend; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Artis has taken with him all the memories and love of those he touched during his lifetime. He is at peace !

“I tried to live in this old world and I did the best I could, but when God reached out his hand, I grabbed on and was led home. I know God will open wide your understanding as to why these things must be.

Dying is only a part of living, therefore celebrate my life.”
