Annie Ophelia Markum (Brown), a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully in Austin, Texas, on August 21, 2025, at the age of 80. Born on January 25, 1945, in Waco, Texas, Annie devoted her life to her family, displaying an unwavering love and commitment that touched the hearts of those around her.

In 1975, Annie moved to Austin, a city she would come to call home for the rest of her life. For over 30 years, she worked at Motorola, where her warm personality and sense of humor left a lasting impression on her colleagues. She cherished the moments spent dancing with friends in her early years, an expression of joy that mirrored her vibrant spirit. Music was always a big part of her life, with Elvis and George Strait filling her heart with happiness. Annie also held a deep appreciation for the culture of Italy, reminiscing about the beauty of a place she dreamed of visiting.

Her greatest pride and joy was her family. Annie played a significant role in raising her grandchildren, Danielle Ophelia Markum and Preston Michael Markum, reinforcing the values of love and family that were so dear to her. In fact, her grandson Preston became her biggest caregiver in her later years, always ensuring she had what she needed and that she was comfortable. Their bond was one of profound love, filled with moments of laughter and support.

Annie was a fighter throughout her years, bravely navigating the challenges of pain and the gradual loss of her eyesight and mobility. Even in those trying times, she remained loving and caring, always brightening up the lives of her loved ones.

Annie is survived by her son, Michael L. Markum, and her beloved grandchildren, Danielle and Preston. She also leaves behind her great-grandchildren, Bethani Ophelia Mackin and Landen Lake Davidson, who were a source of endless joy and smiles in her life.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Jewell Grace Clark and Sterling Henry Brown; her daughter, Laurie Ann Markum; and her former husband, Gerald D. Markum. Losing Annie leaves a void that will be missed deeply by all who knew her, but her spirit will forever reside within the hearts of her family and friends.
