Millard Heine

February 28, 1944 — November 13, 2019

Millard Ray Heine passed away on November 13, 2019.  He was born on February 28, 1944 in Lampasas, Texas.  Millard married the love of his life, Carolyn Joan Strand on June 20, 1969 and together they raised five children.

Millard moved to Elgin, Texas in the late 1950’s, and loved his “hometown”.  He was known to many as a hard worker, he worked as an insurance salesman, plumber, and owned a custom home building business, Heine Construction.  He built beautiful homes in the Elgin area for over twenty years.  He was known as a strong man, not only in physical strength, but also in strength of character.  Millard was able to excel at any sport he chose to compete in.  Always a humble man, he rarely talked about his accolades, most notably, his state amateur arm-wrestling championship.  He competed in various rodeo events, including calf roping, steer wrestling, team roping, and cutting.  He enjoyed playing basketball, football, volleyball, and golf with his family.  He loved music and belonged to a rock band called The Chaparrals and a country band, The Cowboy Band.  His greatest joy in life was indisputably being a husband, father, and grandfather.  Every moment in life was a teachable moment, and he always managed to instill in his children a strong work ethic.  Millard was a physically imposing man but those that knew him best, knew that he was just as kindhearted.  He was often referred to as a gentle giant.  He loved babies and spent his free time holding his children and grandchildren.  His face lit up each time he saw any of his grandchildren.

Service was very important to Millard.  He served in the Texas Army National Guard and as a deacon at the Elgin Church of Christ, as well as always offering a helping hand to those in need.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Henry Millard and Sue Heine; and his brother, Henry Irving.

He is survived by his loving wife of over fifty years, Carolyn Heine; and their children, Daryl Heine and his wife, Erin, Darren Heine, Shanna and her husband, Josh Oden, John Heine and his wife, Marcy, and Tierra Heine; grandchildren, McKynzie Jackson, Ty Oden, Meredith Heine, Brock Oden, Morgan Heine, Brooke Heine, Kayden Heine, Macy Heine, and Kayceton Heine; sister, Anita and her husband, Ron Patton; Aunt, Bobbie Neely; Uncle, James Hamilton, and his wife Sandra; countless nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

Family and friends will gather for visitation at the Elgin Funeral Home on Sunday, November 17th from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM.  A Funeral Service will be conducted on Monday, November 18th at 2:00 PM with Brother Tom Nuckels presiding.  Interment will follow at the Elgin Cemetery.
